Shrek
25th anniversary. Released a quarter of a century ago, this animated movie turned traditional fairy-tale conventions on their head and quickly became a true pop-culture icon. Witty, irreverent, and filled with unforgettable characters, follows a solitude-loving ogre who sets out with the ever-talkative Donkey to rescue Princess Fiona – only for the story to unfold in a very different way than expected.
Platoon
40th anniversary. Oliver Stone’s war drama became one of the defining movies about the Vietnam War, standing out for its brutal realism and moral ambiguity. The story follows a young American soldier who arrives in Vietnam and quickly realizes that the greatest conflict is not only with the enemy, but also within his own platoon. Platoon remains one of the most important and influential war movies in cinema history.
The Silence of the Lambs
35th anniversary. This gripping psychological thriller became a true cinema classic and one of the most memorable, movies of its genre. At the heart of the story is young FBI trainee Clarice Starling, who is trying to solve a serial killer case and must turn for help to the brilliant but dangerous Hannibal Lecter. The Silence of the Lambs stood out not only for its haunting atmosphere and performances – it also won five major Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Moulin Rouge!
25th anniversary. Colorful, extravagant, and bursting with music, Baz Luhrmann’s musical became one of the defining cinematic spectacles of the early 21st century, giving a classic love story a bold, modern pop soundtrack. The movie follows a young writer, Christian, who arrives in bohemian Paris and falls in love with Satine, the star of the famous Moulin Rouge. 65th anniversary.
